WEXFORD’S FINEST TAKE TO STAGE FOR ‘PROOF’

-

WEXFORD Drama Group will return to the Wexford Arts Centre stage in February with a rarely seen Pulitzer and Tony award-winning play.

‘Proof ’ by the American playwright David Auburn is directed by Paul Walsh and features some of Wexford’s finest performers Phil Lyons, Danielle Reck, Stephen Byrne and Patrice McGillycuddy.

It will run nightly from Thursday, February 15 to Saturday, February 17 and from Thursday, February 22 to Saturday, February 24.

The play is about Catherine, the daughter of Robert, a recently deceased mathematical genius in his fifties and professor at the University of Chicago whom Catherine has cared for through a lengthy mental illness. Following Robert’s death, a former student Hal discovers a paradigm-shifting proof about prime numbers in the professor’s office. The title refers both to that proof and to the play’s central question – can Catherine prove the authorship?. Along with demostrating the proof ’s authenticity, the daughter finds herself in a relationship with 28-year old Hal.

The play explores Catherine’s fear of following in her father’s footsteps, both mathematically and mentally, and her desperate attempts to stay in control.

Tickets are on sale at the Wexford Arts Centre box office, telephone 053 9123764 and can also be bought online at wexfordartscentre.ie.
