U-18s need a win in Limerick LADIES’ SOCCER
NEXT SUNDAY, February 4, will see the Wexford and District League Under-18 Schoolgirls’ squad travel to Limerick to take on the home league in a do-or-die game for both sides.
Limerick were beaten 6-0 by the Metropolitan Girls’ League in the opening match of the group, while Wexford were unluckily beaten 3-1 by Cork in Ballycullane in November.
A win in Limerick would bring the Wexford side right back into contention in the inter-league competition, with a massive game at home to the Dublin-based MGL at the end of the month to come.
Manager Alan Browne and his team have been working very hard over the past two months to have the side well prepared for these two big games and while, on paper, both look to be very difficult, they are two games that Wexford are well capable of winning.
In last season’s competition, Wexford also travelled to Limerick and came away 2-1 winners which shows they are well capable of overcoming the Treaty county side.
Last Sunday, team sponsor Brendan Stamp of Guardian Fire and Safety visited the team’s training session in Ferrycarrig Park and was very impressed by how professionally the players were being prepared for these vital upcoming games.
Of course, all involved in the squad are appreciative of the support given by Brendan and his company as everyone involved in sport is well aware, sponsorship and support from companies like Guardian Fire and Safety are vital.
The result from next week’s game will be posted on www. wexfordsoccermonthly.com on Sunday evening, and we wish Alan and the girls the very best of luck for the match.
