DUNBRODY GAELS FORTH AND BARGY 6-13 2-8

JAMIE MYLER stole the show as he contributed an incredible 5-8 of his side’s tally in this stroll to victory over a weak Forth and Bargy Gaels outfit in the Greenstar Under-20 football Division 2A championship game played in Horeswood on Saturday.

The winners’ star forward simply ran riot, kicking scores at will as he ripped the opposing defence asunder with his driving runs and superb finishing.

Indeed, were it not for two excellent saves from Shane Pettit, he would have added further to his impressive final tally.

Both sides were only able to muster 15 players apiece, which was rather surprising given that the winners had the pick of Horeswood and St. James’, while it was a combined St. Mary’s (Rosslare), Our Lady’s Island and St. Fintan’s that comprised the Forth and Bargy Gaels.

The struggle of clubs trying to field teams does not augur well for this new age structure.

It was crystal clear by the tenth minute that this game was going to be all one-way traffic, by which stage the eventual winners led by 1-4 to 0-2.

The goal was a seventh-minute effort from Myler, who recently moved from St. James’ to Horeswood, while Alan Devereux’s pointed frees was the response. with the home side simply strolling through the proceedings.

Myler added a second goal close to the break, giving his side a comfortable 2-10 to 0-4 interval lead, as the opposition’s struggle for scores continued.

After James Walsh had goaled within one minute of the re-start, it was only a matter of what the winning margin would be.

And Dunbrody Gaels had moved into a 4-11 to 1-7 lead by the end of the third quarter after Myler and Cian Meyler exchanged goals.

From there to the finish the Dunbrody boys continually pressed forward as Myler added two further goals close to the finish, while Jamie Sinnott had struck for his team’s second goal minutes earlier.
