Cash win warms up our readers!
EVEN the Beast from the East couldn’t keep readers from picking up their favourite local newspaper at shops across the district on a bone chillingly cold Tuesday morning.
For their efforts five readers were rewarded for their loyalty with a €20 note. Trish Wall from St Martin’s Park in Ballycullane was standing outside Ballycullane Service Station chatting to a friend with the paper tucked under her arms when she was presented with her prize. ‘I come here every Tuesday to pick up the paper. I find it really interesting. Thanks, I might go for breakfast with friends tomorrow with this.’
At Floods Centra in Campile, Bridget Drought was shocked. ‘You have to buy the Standard. I have been buying it every week as your week wouldn’t be complete without it.’
At Caulfield’s Centra in Campile Willie Cottrell was thrilled with his winnings. He recalled when the New Ross Standard was delivered late on Tuesday nights in a van and the excitement in the village even before it hit the shelves on Wednesday morning. ‘It has to be got every week,’ he said.
At Wallace’s Supervalu in Wellingtonbridge, Caoimhe Asple from Foulksmills said it was lovely surprise to win the money, adding that she would use the money for shopping ahead of the ‘Big Freeze’ Tom Neville was picking up his paper at Dillon’s Londis in Fethardon-Sea when he was surprised by the Standard team. ‘I am a regular reader of the paper. I think the local paper is vital to the community,’ Tom said.
