TOP HAT: New Ross Musical Society are staging one of the all time great musicals, Top Hat, this week at St Michael’s Theatre. This is the society’s 50th consecutive production and they are celebrating by bringing some Hollywood glamour to the New Ross stage. Based on the Fred Astaire and Ginger Rodgers movie of the same name and with music by the world renowned Irving Berlin, Top Hat tells the story of Broadway sensation Jerry Travers who dances his way across Europe to win the heart of society girl Dale Tremont. The show runs every night this week at 8 p.m. until Saturday night. Tickets are on sale now from St Michaels Theatre New Ross, from the theatre website or at (051) 421255. THE 4 OF US: Wexford Arts Centre will play host to The 4 Of Us, on March 10. Part of Irish music history for over 25 years, the band was formed and fronted by Newry-born brothers Brendan and Declan Murphy. This new concert will see the brothers in an up-tempo acoustic setting: the audience can expect some beautiful songs, both new and old, stunning interplay, and great stories from the road. The band shot to fame in 1989 with their debut ‘Songs for the Tempted’, which featured the hits ‘Mary’ and ‘Drag My Bad Name Down’. The follow up, Man Alive, made Q magazine’s Top 50 Albums of 1992 and included the UK Top 30 song ‘She Hits Me’. Sugar Island, their new album explores the brothers’ early years growing up in Northern Ireland; musically, it focuses on the trademark interplay of their acoustic guitars and features 12 new songs. Tickets are available from Wexford Arts Centre.
