HUGE CONCERT

The New Ross Singers will be joined by the West Cork Choral Singers in presenting Haydn’s Creation at a concert in the Church of the Assumption Rosbercon on Sunday evening, March 11, The ‘Creation’ is an Oratorio, a musical work for singers and orchestra rather than a theatrical piece. It’s composer, Hadyn, was 66 years of age when he finished this work in 1798 and its appeal continues right up to the present day.

Three international soloists, Brendan Collins, Deirdre Moynihan and Ryan Morgan will be performing having sung with orchestra’s and choral groups all over the world. There will be a mixed choir of some 80 participants plus a 20-strong orchestra from Music Ireland. The spacious area around the altar in the church will be ideal to accommodate such a very big group of singers and musicians. Tickets for this very novel concert are €15 for adults and students, €5 are available from 051 421644 or 051 421766 and will also be on sale at the door on the night.

LATE BIDDY DOYLE

The death occurred recently of Bridget (Biddy) Doyle née Walsh from Glenpipe Tullogher. She was a well-known and well-respected member of our community and her passing even at the fine age of 87 years was much regretted. A hard-working wife and mother she was involved in farming all her life. Her greatest joy in recent years came when she appeared on ‘ Winning Streak’ with Marty Whelan and Sinéad Kennedy and where she gave a good account of herself winning a tidy sum on this popular game show.

Biddy was waked in Jamie Doyle’s Funeral Home, The Old Rectory Rosbercon, and her funeral Mass was celebrated in St David’s Church Mullinarrigle after which she was laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery. Sincere sympathy goes to her husband, Pat, sons and daughters, and the extended family in their sad bereavement. May her gentle soul rest in peace.
