School twins with Fassbergy gymnasiet

March 1996

-

If you thought Wexford Vocational College was confusing people by having three different names in the past two years (first Wexford Vocational School, then Wexford Technical College, and now Wexford Vocational College), then you should hear the name of the school in Sweden it has developed an educational exchange programme with.

It’s called ‘Fassbergygymnasiset’, and it’s in the town of Molndal, where is acutally where the worldwide headquarters of ABS Pumps is located.

One member of staff at the Vocational College said it’s not even accurate to call the partner school’s name a tongue-twister....because nobody in Wexford can pronounce it properly at all! He also admitted that trying to learn how the spell the name for correspondence purposes is also proving problematic.

In any event, the two schools have developed an exchange arrangement based on engineering technology and language learning.

Swedish students are due to arrive in Wexford later this month, and a return visit by 15 Wexford students and some teachers is planned for mid-April.
