SNOW STORM
Like many other areas of the country the Fethard area ground to a halt during the recent snow storm with drifts closing off many roads. There are no reports of any major damage being done. Thanks are due to many local contractors and farmers etc who helped to clear the roads and make it possible to get to shops and various essential services.
CELEBRATION DINNER
The eagerly awaited St Mogue’s GAA Celebration dinner dance will now take place on Friday, March 23, in Brandon House Hotel, New Ross with music by Wrecking Ball followed by DJ Dinner will be at 8 p.m. followed by presentation of medals to our victorious Wexford and Leinster winning hurling team. Tickets are on sale on Wednesday and Friday this week in Neville’s Bar from 8 p.m. to 8.30 p.m.
ST PATRICK’S DAY PARADE
Great things happen when a community comes together. Fethard-on-Sea’s St Patrick’s Day parade will take place on Saturday, March 17, at 1.45 p.m. This year we are very proud to announce that the Grand Marshals of the parade will be our Féile Football and Hurling all-Ireland winning teams. Street entertainment will begin at 1.30 p.m. We are looking forward to seeing everyone there.
SOUP DAY
A Soup Day in aid of St Mary’s Church, Tintern restoration fund will be held in Colclough Hall, Saltmills on Sunday, March 18, between 12 and 3 p.m.
MUSIC/ENTERTAINMENT
St Louis Day Care Centre are holding a night of music and Entertainment in Slainte Bar, Ramsgrange on Friday, March 16, at 9 p.m. Join us for lots of Ceol agus Craic with Pat Hayes and Various Artists. VILLAGE PLAYERS
The Village Players Drama Group will be on stage in St Mary’s Hall for two nights with their hilarious comedy ‘ Widows Paradise’ on Friday and Sunday, March 23, and 25. Tickets available in Fethard post office or from any member of the cast. Get your ticket early to avoid disappointment.
CHELTENHAM FESTIVAL
His many friends in the area wish the best of luck to local horse trainer Pierce Power from the Hook, who has trained Burning Ambition to compete in the St James’ Place Foxhunter Chase in Cheltenham on Friday the 16th. Coming from a well known family with a long involvement in equine sports it is no surprise to see Pierce carry on this tradition. The horse will be ridden by well known Wexford jockey Jamie Codd.
LATE WILLIAM RYAN
The death occurred recently in his 93rd year of William Ryan, Newtown, Fethard-on-Sea. A very well known and popular member of the local community Willie was predeceased by his late wife Anne and is sadly missed by his loving sons Kevin and Liam and daughters Bernadette, Kathleen, Anne, Patricia, Mary, and Joan. His Funeral Mass took place on Tuesday, February 27, in St Aidan’s Church Poulfur with burial afterwards in the New Cemetery Poulfur. Sympathy is extended to his family and friends.
SCRAP METAL COLLECTION

FETHARD ST MOGUE’S GAA
The intermediate hurlers had their first game in the league away to Faythe Harriers last Sunday while the junior hurlers were away to Gusserane on Friday night, reports in next week’s paper. The senior footballers play St Martin’s in the first round of the championship in Wexford Park on Saturday, March 30, at 3 p.m. while they play St Anne’s in the second round in New Ross the following Saturday, April 7, at 3.30 p.m.

Our Mogues Cúl Óg Nursery program will run every Saturday morning at 11 a.m. from April 14 through to September. This is open for boys and girls of all abilities. The emphasis on this is for fun and games and to improve their natural physical abilities in a fun and non-pressurised environment. No playing equipment is needed to start off either, we will provide all that is needed to get things up and running.

Two Beaches Environmental Workers are required to monitor and maintain the cleanliness levels, including water pollution on the Hook Peninsula Beaches. Key tasks include visiting agreed beaches in the peninsula on a regular basis, monitoring cleanliness, water purity/pollution levels and clearing rubbish/debris as appropriate. Skills and Experience Required, An interest in the Hook Peninsula beaches, coastal area, coastal wildlife. Working Hours, 19.5 hours per week.

PEACE COMMISSIONER
Ms Vanessa Davey, Porters Gate, Fethard, was recently appointed to the post as Peace Commissioner, PC by the Minister for Justice Mr TD Charlie Flanagan For Co Wexford and the adjoining counties. MIKEY IN DEMAND
Mikey Dwyer, Houseland is in great demand with sports groups Wexfor senior footballers and the Wexford Co under-21 hurlers are asking him to join the panels but Mikey, who was one of Fethard’s stars in their all-Ireland adventure has commited to play with Clontarf Rugby club for the season. Mikey, who played rugby for New Ross was asked to play for Clontarf and on four successive weekends scored two try’s per game despite his local GAA commitments. At SWWFRC we run projects with a group of core staff, a team of CE workers (of which there is always space to join) and a dedicated group of volunteers.
