Something for all brave souls in Graig

- DAVID LOOBY

THIS year’s Graiguenamangh parade had everything from Bavarian music to a moving foosball pitch, for people braving the bone chillingly cold to enjoy.

A large crowd gathered for the parade which began at the earlier time of noon to enable people to get home or to the pub in time for the Ireland England rugby match.

Celebrity chef Edward Hayden acted as master of ceremonies once again this year at the parade, which was a spectactle of colour and activity. Beginning at the Borris Road, the parade continued to the review stand in the Fair Green, where John McGuinness TD judged the floats.

The Best Community Float was won by the canoe club, the best original title went to Brandon Hill Camping, best vintage vehicle prize went to Pierce Ryan, best walking group went to High View Athletics, the best window display went to Daisy Chain and the most entertaining float went to Musik Kappleuffig Bavaraia.

The moving pitch, complete with children playing inside, was one of the highlights of the parade, which was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.

A parade committee spokesperson said: ‘It was very cold but thankfully the weather held. It started to rain just afterwards. We want to thank everyone for the great effort they put in and all the local businesses for their contributions.’
