Murt Cashin’s honour at Lanzarote parade roll

-

SPORTING a ‘Who’s Your Paddy’ t-shirt, New Ross man Murt Cashin was the star of the colourful Lanzarote St Patrick’s Day Parade.

A regular visitor to the island, Murt, 70, was in his apartment block when parade organisers arrived looking for an Irishman to volunteer for the honour of grand marshal of the parade.

Murt said he decided to go for it and never looked back.

‘The parade was at the earlier time of 1 p.m. on account of the Ireland England rugby match. There were four bands and thousands of Irish lining the streets, along with other holidaymakers. I let myself go and had a ball.’

Murt, who comes from a family of postmen, certainly delivered on the occasion.
