McAuley kids get into character

-

WORLD Book Day was celebrated in Catherine McAuley Junior School on March 9, a week late because of the snow.

Principal Elma Sutton said the day was a great success, affording children the opportunity to dress up as their favourite fictional characters.

Ms Sutton said: ‘We didn’t have children in school that Friday. Instead we had Spiderman, Elsa, Sparkle the Unicorn, Little Red Riding Hood, Gretel, Wally, pirates and more. The children dressed up as their favourite character from a book.’

One Junior Infant pupil dressed up as her favourite book - ‘ the Dictionary’.

The First and Second Class children had been working on their books for the Write a Book project for weeks. The books were full of surprises with princesses, volcanoes, witches, lost bunnies, football, Sparkle the Unicorn, cops and robbers all featuring.

‘ The older children read their books to the little ones who were very impressed and have started thinking of ideas for their own books. The Third Class pupils who visited from Bunscoil Rís wondered if the books were for sale. We worry about the influence of technology on the children of today but the love of books is alive and kicking in Catherine McAuley Junior School’,’ Ms Sutton said.
