Release power plant funding for Horeswood groups

-

A call was made for money held by Wexford County Council from Endesa – the Spanish company operated Great Island power plant – to be released for community projects.

Cllr Martin Murphy said a committee was formed at Campile Hall with a view to allocating the funding.

Cllr Murphy said a meeting should be held on the matter to agree on how the funds are to be dispersed.

‘It was a community fund provided by Endesa to offset disruption to the local community during the building period. The last meeting was held on November 4, 2013. The money is kept in the community section of Wexford County Council in trust to be distributed to the people. There have been 13 applications from the parish of Horeswood. The people down there need to have this finalised. They are getting irate about it so I want a meeting called.’

Cllr Larry O’Brien agreed, adding that complications arose from a legal dispute. He said the matter is now in the hands of Director of Services John Carley. ‘ The money is still there. Personally I have been on to director Carley about it.’

‘I don’t care so long as it’s dealt with. Something like that shouldn’t be left for six years,’ Cllr Murphy said.
