RECEIVED AWARDS

Two members of St Abban’s GAA Club received awards at the recent New Ross District presentati­on night in the Horse and Hound Ballinaboo­la. Grallagh native Jimmy Furlong received his award as a member of the all-Ireland winning hurling team of 50 years ago, when Wexford defeated Tipperary.

Adrian Morrissey received his award as manager of the local hurling and football teams over a long number of years. Adrian played both sports with the club in the past and lined out with the Wexford Senior Footballer­s on many occasions. He was in the County Hurling coaching scheme and assisted many upcoming players on his visits to the various schools around the area.

ICA GUILD

The ICA held their meeting in the community centre on Wednesday, March 14. There was a good attendance on the night and all business was dealt with. The competitio­n was a St Patrick’s Day badge and it was won by Liz and the raffle was won by Dympna. Tea was served by Callie and Dympna. On Sunday the 11th twelve members went to see Top Hat in St Michael’s Theater, New Ross. James Dobbs was the star attraction on the night – Great Show James. Next meeting is on Wednesday, April 11.

VINTAGE ROAD RUN

The Shamrock Vintage will hold its annual road run on Sunday, April 1. Starting at one o’clock from the hall carpark in Adamstown. Registrati­on from 11.30.

The route will take place through the following townlands, Knockreigh, Oldcourt, Templeshel­in, Ballagh, Templenacr­ow, Robinstown, Knockroe, Kathys Cross, Kehoes Cross, Lacken, Old Ross, Moorfields, Courthoyle, The Boola, Misterin, The Barracks and back to Adamstown, a distance of just 20 miles.

A three course hot lunch will be served to all entrants and a draw for prizes in Coláiste Abban. All vehicles welcome, must be insured, and drivers over 16 years. old. The proceeds will go to Coláiste Abban, towards furniture for a new canteen. Your support would be most welcome.

CARDS

The weekly ‘30’ card game continues in the community centre this Friday, March 30, at 9 p.m. Thanks to the ladies for the tea last week. CAtering on Friday the 30th will be Breda Whelan, Deirdre Whelan and Bessie Fortune. Proceeds going to parish funds.
