Chef Dundon suing HSE over operation

-

CHEF Kevin Dundon, pictured, is suing the HSE after he suffered two pulmonary embolisms while having his varicose veins removed.

The action against the HSE was lodged by Dundon’s legal representation, Dundon Callanan, at the High Court last Thursday, March 22.

It is understood the case is being filed after Dundon suffered two pulmonary embolisms following a medical procedure to remove his varicose veins in April 2017.

A pulmonary embolism is a blockage in one of the pulmonary artery in the lungs. In most cases, a pulmonary embolism is caused by blood clots that have travelled to the lungs from another part of the body.

Speaking on the Ray D’Arcy Show on RTE Radio One last July, Mr Dundon said he had been admitted for a procedure to remove his varicose veins. However he was left close to death having suffered two pulmonary embolisms following the procedure. ‘“It’s very, very serious... you could die... mine was a bi-product of the procedure.’ He said that there was a ‘ one in 4,000’ chance that you can get this from the procedure for varicose veins.

‘It is a flick of blood from the procedure that travels through your veins and sits in your lungs. The next step is that you can actually die. It either goes into your heart or your brain.’

Dundon said he was not in a position to comment on the case while the State Claims Agency, which said it ‘does not comment on individual cases’.
