E tie due to row over starting time

-

The County Board forwarded a letter to Croke Park that stated that a request for a double-header was rejected, owing to the state of the pitch.

Despite St. Patrick’s Park being available for an early throw-in, Wexford were not given a reason as to why it couldn’t be played in the morning. Common sense, it seems, is irrelevant.

Only when Joan O’Flynn, soon to depart C.E.O. of the Camogie Association, became aware of the dispute, was there some sort of budging.

With her involvement, a 5 p.m. throw-in time was suggested but Carlow, understandably, weren’t interested in leaving the game until Sunday evening after a mad dash from Innovate Wexford Park.

It’s not the first time that this Intermediate team has been messed about, with the Association moving their only other home game to Waterford in order to accommodate Cork.

The Rebel county have benefited from plenty of game moves this season.

As well as the farcical shift of the Wexford match, they have also had a game moved to a Saturday, as well as playing at the earlier time of 1 p.m.

Their Senior and Minor teams have also had games moved to different days.

Comically, the game between Down and Antrim in the same group was moved forward to Saturday and was won by the Saffrons.

It would appear at this stage that the answer was ‘no’ simply because of who was asking.

The battle lines seem to be drawn between the game’s governing body and Wexford camogie officials.

This latest shun finally seems to have opened some eyes within the County Board, and there are sure to be some interesting exchanges when national Congress takes place in Mount Juliet this coming weekend.
