Our winner was again our young up and coming player, Adeline Foxe (25), with 37 points. Second was Marguerite Sutton (22) with 33 points (last nine), and third was Eileen Cullinan (16) with 33 points (last nine).

NEW ROSS SENIORS
Our first away outing of the season was to picturesque Gowran Park on Tuesday where nine teams enjoyed an excellent day’s golf.
The course was in great condition considering the heavy rain which fell on Monday, and the greens were a joy to putt on. Even on a strange course we had some terrific scoring, with seven of the nine competing teams cracking the 90-point target.
Playing our usual champagne scramble format but with each player driving on all the par threes and two scores counting on all holes, it was indeed a battle royal on a fine, dry day. The handicapper got it spot on with only points separating the winners from the rest of the field.
Taking the honours in first place with a cracking score of 97 points were Tony Harford (13), John Coleman (20), Kenny Irwin (22) and Martin Burke (26).
Hot on their heels in second place came Dick Cuddihy (15), Martin Forristal (20), Brian Dolan (23) and Donal Kavanagh (23) with 95 points.
A further point behind on 94 points and in third spot were Patsy Farrell (20), Larry Shannon (20), John F. Roche (21) and Les Jastrebski (26).
A three-person team composed of Eamon Delaney (16), Mikey Lee (19) and Jim Kehoe (25) took fourth place courtesy of a better back nine (48/43), with the trio tallying a 91 points total. On the same score and placed fifth were Ray Shannon (14), Aidan O’Connor (20), Martin Hartley (22) and Donie Cody (23).
Many thanks to Ann Marie Scannell, Director of Golf at Gowran Park, for her gracious welcome to the group and looking after us so well on the course and in the restaurant - it was much appreciated.
Our next away outing is to Bunclody Golf and Fishing Club on April 24, with full details later.
The weather was a spoilsport for our scheduled home outing on Thursday, with torrential rain pouring down all morning.
Next Thursday, April 5, is the club open three-person scramble where you can book online. The first Alliance outing of the year is at the Gold Coast G.C., Dungarvan, on Monday, April 9.
Names, if you want a tee-time, to Jamesie Murphy at 085-1846172 as soon as possible.
On the draw board for April are John Murphy, Dick Cuddihy and Brian Dolan.

DONOHOE’S SOCIETY
Donohoe’s Golf Society started back late this year due to all the snow, March 25 to be exact. Winners in Carrigleade were: 1, Nicky Cahill; 2, Cliff Weber; 3, Willie Nolan, all with scores of 30 points.
Nicky Cahill took home the birdie money. The yellow ball team winners were Joe Byrne, Anto Kelly and ‘Prof’ Nolan. On Easter Sunday we played in Bunclody.

COURTOWN
It has been another very mixed week for Courtown, as I am sure it has been for many golf clubs. There were definite signs of improvement in weather conditions during the week, but this is Irish weather after all and we can never predict from one day to the next what might befall us.
Everything was in place for the final day of the Wednesday sweep to decide who would be the overall winner of the Pascal Storan Trophy. That all went according to plan and the end-of-season dinner was a well-attended event on Wednesday.
Congratulations to Pat Ryan who was the overall winner and claimed the Pascal Storan Trophy.
Things were starting to look up a bit for the much-anticipated Captains’ drive-in on Saturday, but the Irish weather being what it is put an end to those well-laid plans.
A decision had to be made on Friday evening as to whether the course would be playable, and so the golfing part of the day had to be called off.
Not to be outdone however, it was decided that a drive-in event would take place, and at 1.30 p.m. the lady Captain, Catherine Quinn, and the Captain, Niall Nolan, arrived in some style.
Both Captains were dressed in full ‘Back To The Future’ costume and had a genuine Delorean car. The drive-in was followed by our now customary lunch.
The whole day was well supported and all present wished both Captains well for their year in office.
Weather improved somewhat and we did manage to play the invitation fourball on Sunday.
I do not want to be the one to tempt fate, but this week we hope to have the first of our weekly gents’ open singles and the Seniors’ open on Thursday.
On Saturday we will have a gents’ singles, the bookies’ prize, and on Sunday a ladies’ and gents’ Scotch foursomes.
Wednesday sweep, March 28: 1, Peter McAteer (23), 31 points; 2, Michael Power (13), 30 points (last six); 3, Tommy Kinsella (17), 30 points; 4, Pat Ryan (16), 29 points.
Any combination fourball, Sunday, April 1: 1, Catherine Ledwidge (14), Tony Hewitt (18), 37 points; 2, Jack Kinsella (23), Christy White (15), 35 points (last nine).
BALLYMONEY
There was no midweek nine-hole competition due to the unseasonable weather.
The Captain’s drive-in and three-person scramble fixed for Good Friday were postponed due to heavy rain on Thursday.
Thankfully the weekend saw better conditions and a good turn-out for a singles stableford showed some impressive scoring.
Joe Lee (12) won with 38 points, holding off Ed Walsh (13) on countback. Anthony Fortune (14) was third with 37 points.
The weather held up for Easter Sunday until the evening, but it didn’t stop Anthony Fortune’s All-Ireland fourball team defeating Arklow in a tight match.
Arklow won both of their matches in Arklow but the three home pairings held on in an exciting finish. Next up is a match versus Druids Glen.

All proceeds go to Junior golf and all members are asked to participate. Bookings are on the website.
Well done to the All-Ireland fourball team which recorded a win over St. Helen’s last weekend.
On Sunday night the biggest joker of all claimed the Joker jackpot of €1,752. Paddy Cleary, after years of contributing, finally scooped the big prize.
On hearing the result, he said there would be free tea/ coffee for the Pats and Kenny, his weekly long-suffering golf partners, for the foreseeable future.
ST. HELEN’S
We had our first 18-hole competition of the season on Easter Sunday. Aches and pains post golf proved the order of the day, as the testing underfoot conditions put pressure on untuned muscles.
Our All-Ireland fourball team faced Wexford on Easter Saturday and, following a titanic struggle, just came up short.
Hard luck and well played to the team, which was: Jimmy Kearney and Paddy Dunne, Rhodes Murphy and Terry O’Toole, Nick Hayes and Noel Dorey, Jim Egan and Michael Grant, and Jim Brauneisen and Mark Tully.
