A SPECIAL THANK YOU FROM OUR RACE DIRECTOR

- By MICHAEL JORDAN

WHEN I look at the photograph of the clothesline with the vibrant coloured t-shirts over the past six years, many memories come to mind.

The luminous yellow t-shirt, 2012: There was no date on this one, sure it was only going to be held for one year!

‘A bit of a walk/run, to raise a bit of money for Hope Cancer Support Centre, and Share A Dream, who help improve the quality of the lives of sick children.’ ( Tom and John )

Something magic happened, everyone loved the event, ‘ let’s give it another go’!

Bright Blue, 2013: Hope and Dream 10 is now an annual event.

Bright Green, 2014: Enniscorthy Credit Union generously come on board to sponsor the t-shirts, a great boost. Money shared with Console ( Wexford).

Dazzling Orange, 2015: Sure we’re on a roll, keep her going lads!

Blue, 2016: Shared with Hospice Homecare Wexford. A very worthy cause, whose work is closely alligned with that of the Hope Centre.

Shocking Pink, 2017: ‘Ah lads, sure you could see them from outer space!’ They were fabulous, 2,328 people registered.

What colour for 2018? White... too boring. Black... no way!

How about Purple and Gold? Loch Garman Abu, Up Wexford!

Our association with Hospice Homecare has worked so well, and we are proud to be able to support their amazing work, so we changed our tradition of sharing with a different charity after two years.

The Board of Hope decided to share half the proceeds from 2018, equally between Hospice Homecare, and the Wexford Hospital M.R.I. Scanner Appeal, an urgently required service.

So in October we started the ball rolling. Our dedicated team of volunteers, as always, cheerfully and generously took on their roles.

Denise at base looking after all the co-ordination and registration, leaders, fitness and nutrition advice, media (Linda worked her magic with People Newspapers, who very kindly came on board), route planning, a small army of volunteers to prepare race packs, registration, marshalling, Little Dreamers Dash, etc. The list goes on. Thank you to each and every one of you.

The wonderful people who do all this work, our sponsors and participants – on behalf of the three Charities – THANK YOU.

Every cent raised by Hope and Dream 10 goes directly to the charities. This year, with a little extra support, we may just reach the magic figure of €1,000,000 raised over seven years, for local charities.

If we do nothing... Nothing will happen (Tom Leacy).

If you have not already signed up for Hope and Dream 10, please do, and join us on April 8, on a leisurely walk or run around the beautiful Enniscorthy countryside.

I have stood at the finish-line for the past six years, and seen the expressions and emotions of everyone who participated, a very humbling experience. It is a privilege to be part of the team.
