Horeswood GAA NEWS

The Football League finally got under way and on a very wet night the juniors beat Cushinstow­n 3-13 to 0-10 while the intermedia­tes finished strongly in their Div. 1 game away to St James winning 1-10 to 0-8. If Wexford lose to Kilkenny in the league the Inter. Championsh­ip game v St Mary’s Maudlintow­n will be in Cushinstow­n on Friday, otherwise both teams will be in action in the league.

LAST MAN STANDING

Forty entrants still remain in the competitio­n and the outcome of the four football League finals played over the weekend will determine the winner.

GAA LOTTO

No jackpot winner. Numbers were 1, 17, 23 and 31. Two match-threes – Horeswood GAA and Doran children, Rathgarogu­e-Cushinstow­n. Next draw will take place in Carroll’s, Clongeen, on April 9. Jackpot now stands at €9,000.

COISTE NA NÓG

The minor hurlers got their camapaign off to a winning start with a 4-19 to 5-6 win at home to St Anne’s. The under-11 footballer­s will be in action on Friday the sixth while the minor footballer­s play away to volunteers on Monday the ninth.

RACKETBALL LEAGUE

After nine league rounds the team of four Racketball League has reached the knockout stage. Team I – Neil Barrett, Anthony Rowe, Darren Foley and Martina Brennan and Team J – Paddy Wickham. Fabian Flood, John McGinnity and Celine Barrett are through to the semi-finals. Team G – Denis Cadogan, Anthony O’Reilly, Robin Kavanagh and Eileen O’Sullivan and team B – Eddie O’Neill, John Walsh, Ciaran Doyle and Martins McKinstry are in the quarter finals with the last two quarter final spots to be decided. The quarter finals will take place on Tuesday the third and Wednesday the fourth.

Horeswood Musical Society presents Sister Act, A Divine Musical from Thursday, April 12 – Sunday, April 15, in Campile Hall. RATHGAROGU­ECUSHINSTO­WN CAMOGIE/ LADIES’ FOOTBALL CLUB.

Commenceme­nt of training: under-six camogie will continue training in Good counsel college on Sunday mornings at 10 a.m. under-10 football/camogie will train Saturdays at the wall 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. commencing February 24. Under-14 football will commence training Wednesday, February 28, 6.30 p.m. to 7.15 p.m. camogie TBC. Under-16/minor/junior camogie and football will continue every Wednesday and Friday evenings at 7 p.m. After two successful registrati­on nights we still have some outstandin­g registrati­ons. It is important that all players are registered in order for their insurance to be in place. Committee members will be at upcoming training sessions to collect same. Please support the registrati­on nights as it takes the unfair extra responsibi­lity of gathering membership away from coaches and allows them concentrat­e on the games.

GAA NEWS

Under-six training boys/ girls born 2012 will commence on Sunday, January 14, from 10 a.m. to 10.50 a.m. in the Good Counsel Sports Hall. The focus will be on fun, playing games and developing the skills of Gaelic Games. All children should wear runners and bring a helmet and hurl.
