Woman charged with leaving car unlocked while unattended

-

The owner of a car involved in an accident at a New Ross housing estate faced prosecution for an unusual alleged offence at the District Court in Wexford.

The silver Audi belonging to Claire Larkin (26), with an address at 8 Malin Walk, Ardkeen, Waterford collided with a jeep at the entrance to the Glenbarra estate.

She was summonsed for leaving a motor powered vehicle not locked while unattended as she visited a friend in the area.

Evidence of what occurred on June 14 was provided to Judge Gerard Haughton by Denise and Fintan Walsh who were in the jeep.

Denise Walsh told how the Audi was up on the footpath and on the wrong side of the road before the accident occurred around 7.30 p.m. that evening.

The driver was a male who suggested to the Walshes that there must have been something wrong with the brakes.

When Claire Larkin appeared at the scene, according to Ms Walsh, she asked the driver ‘what are you doing with my car?’

His response, as the witness recalled it, was to tell the accused that she had given him the keys.

The testimony was that the un-named male then returned the keys to the defendant and left the scene.

Solicitor Gerry Flynn made legal submission in defence of the accused woman and Judge Haughton decided to adjourn the matter for his consideration.

The case is due back in court on May 8.
