Inistioge swept clean ahead of Entente

-

MORE than 30 people turned out to take part in a litter pick in Inistioge recently, the first major activity to take place as the village prepares for a busy few months getting ready for the Entente Florale competition.

All parts of the village were covered as were the approach roads in the direction of Tullogher, Thomastown and New Ross.

Significant amounts of litter were collected including coffee cups, drinks cans and bottles, many no doubt discarded by passing motorists.

In all over 40 large bags of litter were collected.

A Tidy Towns committee spokesperson said: ‘It was great to see people of all ages volunteering for the task. High-vis vests, gloves, bags and litter-pickers were distributed to the teams and they spread out across the village.’

After all the hard work everyone was treated to a cup of tea at the Circle of Friends café. Inistioge is one of just two Irish representatives in the Entente Florale competition in 2018. It has set itself the target of winning a gold medal. Just two towns and villages are nominated every year to represent each participating country with Dungarvan being the other Irish entry. Inistioge’s participation in the Entente Florale competition is being led by Inistioge Tidy Towns which wishes to acknowledge the assistance provided by Kilkenny County Council and the Department of Rural and Community Development in its preparation for the competition.
