Ninja nails it in stake final
Good crowd braved weather
THE WEATHER was horrible for the Monday night card featuring the final of the Red Mills Easter Unraced Stake at Enniscorthy Greyhound Track, but a good crowd braved the weather and were treated to an exciting race for the €4,000 first prize.
It was classed as a wide open race as the trap draw was not in favour of many.
As traps went up, the big two got up to the first bend in charge as Ninja Burgess led with Boylesport Boom in hot pursuit down the back straight.
The race saw its crucial moment when Boylesport made his challenge on the inside at the third bend. However, Ninja cut across him and there was a coming together, leaving the field packed up behind them.
Ninja got his stride back and came home the stronger to score from Boylesport who just held the strong finish of Blackhill Rock in a time of 29.44.
A lot of greyhounds were sold from this very successful stake, and it will be interesting in the coming months to see how these purchases progress.
Owner Kathleen Stamp also had her winner in race three when her Glenbrien Slave came good from trap one box to score in 29.50.
It has been a big week for Kathleen as she was honoured with a special merit award by the I.G.B.
The quickest run of the night came from a reserve when the Philip Lynch (Ballinaboola)-owned Toker Oliva was impressive when recording a very smart 29.09 in race seven.
This Thursday night’s race card features the Roban Financial novices 600 yards stake final. Pint Of Sausages is the one to beat after an impressive 33.01 semi-final win last week.
