CHRISTENING GIFT IS DELIVERED... 9 YEARS AFTER THE DAY!
GIRL’S DELIGHT AT PICTURE PERFECT GIFT FOUND BETWEEN WALLS
A BABY GIRL’S Christening present lost in the partition of a wall in the Docks Hotel in New Ross in 2009 was reunited with its intended recipient almost a decade later, last Tuesday night.
Cushinstown man Tom Connick stopped into the hotel to use the toilet in 2009 and placed the present for baby Ciara Nolan from Tinakilly, Rosbercon, on a window ledge. There was a window board on it at the time and when he reached for the present it fell down between the partition and the stone wall.
The Docks Hotel is currently being renovated and will be reopened under a new name later this year. Project manager Tom Kavanagh said: ‘He couldn’t retrieve it and had to go to the Christening party at the hotel with no present. It just happened that about three weeks ago Tom Connick was at our business Eden Manor bridal near Enniscorthy getting a suit when I happened to mention that the hotel was opening again.’
When the Cushinstown man described exactly where he had lost the present, Tom said he would be working on that side of the building in the coming weeks and would look for it.
‘I was moving the wall and out fell the present with the pink wrapping on it. It looked immaculate.’
He contacted Tom immediately and reunited him with the gift.
‘He was going to present it to her as a Confirmation present 11 years later. I just thought it was a lovely little story.’
Tom Connick said he asked Tom to have a look out for the present if he was knocking any walls at the disabled toilet.
Tom, 32, said he was delighted to be able to finally present the gift to his first cousin Ciara last Tuesday.
