Ballycullane playground needed for area’s youth
A playground is badly needed for the youth of one of the county’s most neglected villages, Ballycullane.
This is the message that went out at a meeting in the Tintern Sports Complex recently.
Cllr Michael Whelan said an application for funding a playground for the village is about to be submitted.
Addressing a crowd of 30 local residents, Cllr Whelan said there are 27 applications for playgrounds in County Wexford expected to be lodged in time for the July deadline.
He said: ‘It’s something we’ve been fighting for in the area for a long time.’
A consultation survey is being undertaken concerning the need for a playground in the village.
‘We have around 200 children attending the three local national schools of Ballycullane, St Leonards and Gusserane. The get together was about finding out what kind of playground parents want in the community as they have to take ownership of this.’
Describing the application process as intricate, Cllr Whelan said the Ballycullane application will be finalised in time for the end of July deadline.
‘Six of the 27 applications will be granted funding. We live in a parish in which there is very little to do other than GAA and soccer. We have a great complex here in Tintern with two sports fields and a very busy walking track, but we’ve been missing a playground for a while and this is an ideal chance.’
