Drivers serve up €1,500 sum for canteen

-

COLÁISTE ABBAIN, the rapidly growing Adamstown school, is €1,500 to the better thanks to a fundraising drive by members of the Shamrock Vintage Club – who presented a cheque for the sum recently at the school.

Vehicles of all shapes and sizes turned out for the 11th annual Shamrock Vintage Club Pat Byrne Memorial road run on Sunday, April 1.

The motoring group previously donated a total of €3,000 to the school, with the €4,500 total sum going towards new furniture for the canteen.

People travelled from near and far on a lovely spring morning for the event last month. 2018 marked the 11th year that the club has held this run and in those ten years the club have supported Wexford Hospice, Crumlin Children’s Hospital, the Community Hospital New Ross, the Community Workshop and many more.

A large number of drivers registered for this year’s event. Participants enjoyed a tour of the school on the day also and organisers were delighted with the support shown for the school.

Shamrock club members Mogue Curtis and Philip Jackman handed over the cheque. Club stalwart John Walsh said the enrolment numbers for the school have increased by 60 so more furniture is needed for the canteen area. ‘Over the years we have raised €50,000 for charities. We had over 100 vehicles registered for this event and others also contributed. We enjoyed a meal in the school afterwards and it was a really enjoyable day,’ John said.
