CHINESE GROUP WELCOMED TO ROSSLARE EUROPORT
The Chinese Ambassador to Ireland, His Excellency Dr Yue Xiaoyong, accompanied a delegation from Hubei Province in the People’s Republic of China on an official visit to Rosslare Europort recently.
Rosslare, which is Ireland’s second biggest port for ship visits and unitised freight, welcomed the delegation as part of a series of engagements in County Wexford to mark the proposed twinning of Wexford and Hubei Province.
The visit was an opportunity for the Chinese delegation to view the port’s facilities and learn about future growth and investment opportunities for Rosslare.
It follows a visit to Rosslare Europort a few weeks ago by Transport Minister Shane Ross and the Minister of State Paul Kehoe.
‘ This is a time of great opportunity for Rosslare Europort and we are working with stakeholders locally and nationally and engaging with business and interested groups beyond our shores to explore how we can develop and highlight the options Rosslare can provide to business and the economy in the post-Brexit environment’, said the port’s general manager Glenn Carr.
Mr Carr said Irish Rail was delighted to join with Wexford County Council in welcoming the Hubei delegation who expressed a specific interest in finding out more about the role and potential of Rosslare.
He also welcomed the positive comments about Rosslare’s potential which made by Minister Ross at the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport following his Wexford visit. ‘We will continue to work with department officials to ensure we are best placed for opportunities in the future’, he said.
Rosslare Europort is the quickest direct route to mainland Europe, offering daily sailings to France with Irish Ferries and Stena and a direct weekly service to Spain with Neptune lines.
