Tombrack make history by winning youths title

- YOUTHS DIVISION 3

ENNISCORTHY UNITED TOMBRACK UNITED 0 4

TOMBRACK’S youths team made history when they became the first team from the club to win a Youths title and it has to be said, it was well deserved.

There is no doubt that after a long tough season, they were the best team in the division.

The start of this game against second placed United was nervy and they allowed the home side to dictate the opening ten minutes before Tombrack settled down and began to play some decent passing football.

Enniscorthy United had to win this game to have any hope of stopping Tombrack from lifting the title but when Kevin Kenny rocketed a free-kick off the bottom of the crossbar, Josh McMullen was on hand to force the ball across the line for a well deserved lead.

This caused frustration to creep into the home side and they had a player sent off minutes later for striking out when fouled by David Power and the player was given his marching orders by referee Michael Franklin.

The second-half was all Tombrack and they went 2-0 up when William Dunne’s header was cleared off the line but Mikey Roche was on hand to knock home the rebound and minutes later Josh McMullen more or less secured victory when his shot found the corner of the net from the edge of the area.

Kevin Kenny made it 4-0 shortly after with a well taken strike and although the home side never gave up, they could not break down a well organised Tombrack defence, who were well worthy winners of the match and the league title.

Wexford Football League committee member Phil O’Brien was on hand to present the league trophy to Tombrack captain Kevin Kenny, who thanked the management team of Willie Maher, James Coleman and David Fitzgibbon, as well as his team-mates.
