Bohs get the job done

Wexford Bohs captured the Division 1 title on Sunday with a 2-0 win over fellow title-hopefuls Forth Celtic in Murrintown.

The Drinagh-based club knew three points would get them over the line and got their noses in front before the break through Jason Swords. Alan Flood added the second after the interval and the celebratio­ns could begin soon afterwards. It was a wonderful day for the club, with their second string wrapping up the Division 4 crown later in the afternoon.

Bohs had taken a big step towards the title last Wednesday evening by overcoming fellow high-flyers Rosslare Rangers 2-0.

Bohs got off to the perfect start when Jack Murphy fired them in front in the first minute and Seán Pailing sealed the deal with a well-taken second with ten minutes remaining.

Elswhere in Division 1 Ferns United overcame Moyne Rangers 4-2 with goals from Martin Redmond, Ivan Meegan and James Tonks (two), with Paul Devereux and Niall Thorpe replying for the Enniscorth­y men.

Davy Larkin (two) and Eric Banville got the goals for Campile United in their 3-0 win over Kilmore.

St. Cormac’s moved back to the summit of Division 2 after a 7-0 win over Adamstown on Sunday.

Brendan Burke helped himself to four goals, with Mark Brady, Mick Sweeney and Paul ‘Roddy’ Doyle adding a goal apiece.

Adamstown had picked up three points on Thursday, as an Ian White hat-trick earned them a 3-2 triumph over St. Joseph’s.

Crossabeg finished their league campaign in style with a 6-2 win over Taghmon United. Mark Crosbie bagged a hat-trick for the winners, with Dave Berney adding a double and Vinnie Sullivan chipping in with a goal. Jamie Cahill got both goals for Taghmon.

Nicky Sinnott continued his hot scoring streak for Cushinstow­n, grabbing all four of their goals in his side’s 4-1 win over Rosslare Port in midweek.

He followed it up with the only goal of the game on Sunday as his side edged out Bree United.

Rosslare Port saw off Duncannon 3-0, with goals from Jamie McMahon (two) and Lee Harpur. Rathnure picked up an important three points on Sunday, but they also did title-chasing Raheen a huge favour by overcoming Wexford Albion.

Shane Lawlor was the match winner for Rathnure, hitting a hattrick to earn his side a 3-1 victory.

Graham O’Grady and Jimmy Sutton both netted doubles for Fethard Rangers in their 4-1 win over Oylegate United, while Chris Connick, Jess Quigley and James Connick hit the back of the net for Shelburne as they saw off Rosslare Rangers 3-0. Elsewhere, Bridge Rovers beat Rosbercon 2-0.

Crossabeg got the better of Curracloe United 3-2 in midweek, thanks to a James Carley double and an Oisin O’Connor goal.

Tommy O’Leary and Keith Crosbie (two) scored for Camolin in their 3-3 win in Curracloe, while Castledock­rell beat Carne 5-0.

Gorey Celtic refused to simply hand the title to Glynn-Barntown as they chalked up an impressive 5-1 win over Wexford Albion on Thursday evening.

Greg O’Rourke helped himself to a hat-trick for the north county men, while Maksymilia­n Denisiuk and Jakub Konkel added a goal apiece. They secured runners-up spot by drawing 1-1 with Ballymurn on Sunday with Konkel getting their goal, while Campile beat Tombrack 2-1 with Paddy McMahon netting a double for the winners and Mick Kelly replying.

St. Leonards earned promotion from Division 5, with Eric English grabbing both their goals in a 2-1 win in Camolin. Conor Mulholland scored for the hosts.
