Passengers will be Hooked on New Ross

SEVEN PAGE CARA FEATURE HAILS AREA’S WONDERS

THE New Ross area is the subject of a seven-page feature article entitled Wex Appeal in the Aer Lingus Cara magazine transatlantic edition, seen by tens of thousands of passengers.

The April edition of the magazine – which had a print run of 50,000 copies – features a map directing potential visitors to numerous tourist attractions, restaurants and cafes in the area. Local craft producers and artists are featured, along with Hook Head Adventures kayak company.

The article, by Yvonne Gordon, reads like a love letter to the south west of the county, singing its praises through descriptions of the rich Norman history through to the quality of the food and service in the area.

A synopsis of the area’s history is outlined taking in the stories of William Marshall ‘ The Greatest Knight’, his wife Isobel de Clare, Tintern Abbey, Cistercian monks and Hook Lighthouse, through to the Colclough family and the walled gardens that are ‘filled with everything from flowers to fruit trees’.

The founding of New Ross is described and Gordon draws readers’ attentions to the Ros Tapestry and Dunbrody Famine Ship tourist attractions, along with Dunbrody Abbey, Loftus Hall, Ballyhack Castle, Duncannon

The article concludes with the lines: ‘“By the creek of Bagnbun, Ireland was lost and won” – and this little corner of southeast Ireland is definitely where my heart was won’.

A full page is devoted to places to stay, eat and drink, with recommendations on day trips and tours.

Kilmokea Country Manor gets a mention, as does Dunbrody House and Glendine Country House, while the Cracked Teapot tearooms in New Ross are singled out for praise, along with Aldridge Lodge restaurant, Neville’s Bar in Fethard on Sea, Roche’s Bar in Duncannon and The Local at the Dunbrody House Hotel.
