CONGRATULA­TIONS

Congratula­tions to the Ballycogle­y Players and local members as they were crowned all-Ireland Champions on Saturday, April 21, in St Brigid’s Hall Carnew. The ESB Claregalwa­y Festival of Drama Trophy was awarded to them for the best overall play. Coffee morning.

A coffee morning in aid of the Irish Cancer Society will be held in Carrig-on-Bannow Community center on Saturday, June 2, from 10 a.m. till 2 p.m. Your support is welcome.

GAA CLUB NEWS

Lotto numbers were 1, 10, 25 and 27. Next jackpot will be €5,000. Congratula­tions to Pat Hogan and Kathy Dunne on their match three wins.

Well done and a massive Thank you to the Bingo Commettee on last week’s 10th year Anniversar­y in Carrig Hall. It is a great achievemen­t to have this bingo still going. There was even cake. Pictures and a message from Chris on the Facebook page.

This Tuesday, May 8, down in Grantstown Day Care Centre at 8 p.m. there is a public meeting to discuss and view the proposed plans for the new build.

LEGION OF MARY

Bannow Praesidium of the legion of Mary are holding their Acies ceremony in Carrig church on Wednesday, May 9, at 7.30 rosary and legion prayers followed by Mass. Tea will be served afterwards in the community centre all welcome.

COFFEE MORNING.

A coffee morning will be held in aid of Nurture Africa in John and Flora Daly’s house, Coolhull on Saturday, May 5, between 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Their daughter Dearbhla will be spending three weeks teaching in Uganda this summer for Nurture Africa.

VOLUNTARY HOUSING

A public meeting will be held in Grantstown Day Care Center on Tuesday, May 8, at 8 p.m. to 9.30 to discuss and view the proposed plans for the new build.

DEATHS

Deepest sympathy to Karen French and family on the death of her father Joe last Thursday, April 26. Joe was was buried after 11 a.m. Mass in Rathangan cemetery. May he Rest In Peace.

The death occurred of Josie Pluck née Roche from Carrigmine, Dublin, formerly of Bannow Island. Josie was the late Peggy Corcoran’s sister. She was in her 96th year and was laid to rest at Deans Grange cemetery on Wednesday, April 25, Deepest sympathy to her sons Liam, Tony, Ben and daughter Jean, relatives and friends.

DANCING

HISTORICAL SOCIETY

Bannow Historical Society will hold their AGM in Tir na nOg Wellington Bridge on Monday May 14 at 8.30 p.m. All are welcome. There will be a historical talk in early June.

The Ireland Needs Fatima rosary will take place on Saturday May 12, at 2 p.m. opposite supervalu in Wellington­bridge. Doyle, Billy Kavanagh, Mary Cullen and Isla Barry. The next lotto draw will be held on Tuesday, May 8, and the jackpot now stands at €10,800.

FASTNET ROVERS AGM

Our annual general meeting is on Thursday, May 10, at 7 p.m. in Rathangan Hall. Based on our Informatio­n Night the changes to the underage soccer season (Calendar Year Soccer) has impacted support for our Developmen­t plans and may impact teams/player numbers. We will make key decisions at our AGM and invite you to attend to give your input on them.

CLOTHING COLLECTION

Cleariesto­wn Community Playgroup will be having a Fundraisin­g used clothing collection on Monday, May 21. Please donate all your clean unwanted clothes also bed linen, towels, curtains, shoes, bags, belts and soft toys. Old mobile phones will also be accepted. You can drop off any items at the playschool any weekday morning between 9.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. All proceeds from this collection and previous one will go directly to the parish council to help with the running costs of our playroom within the community centre. Thank you for your support.

There will be a clean-up in Duncormick in preparatio­n for Tidy Towns Competitio­n on Thursday, May 10, at 7 p.m. Meet in village beside Sinnott’s Pub.

MCCALL’S COTTAGES

Many thanks to Jim Hurley for his time and care in introducin­g us to the fascinatin­g life of our resident Leiserl’s Bats. Watch this space. In preparatio­n for the blessing ceremony on May 18, there are shrubs to be planted, garden benches to be assembled and some painting to be done.
