Family say thanks for Cuddle cot fundraiser

-

AN obstacle course event held in the Geraldine O’Hanrahan club grounds in December 2016 helped to raise €23,000 for cuddle cots in maternity awards across the region.

The cooling cuddle cot device allows families extra time with their stillborn babies by enabling them to bring their baby home to wake and grieve.

The New Ross event was one of many fundraisers organised in memory of Míchéal Coady, who sadly passed away during birth on December 22, 2015. It was a huge comfort to his parents Miriam and Mick and sisters to be able to spend time with him at home before saying goodbye.

This gift inspired the Coadys to raise funds in memory of their son Míchéal in order to purchase extra cuddle cots for local hospitals, including Wexford General, to share with other grieving families.

They were overwhelmed with the response and generosity of local people and businesses. The organisers were particularly grateful to Phyllis Mooney of PM Fitness who organised a hugely successful obstacle course. ‘A big thank you also to the group of friends who ran the Waterford half marathon in aid of the fund and to EA Circuits who donated all the proceeds from a special class to the fund. The extra funds raised meant that the organisers were able to liaise with other hospitals and charities to supply equipment to be used by grieving families.’
