MEET WEXFORD’S NEWEST AMBASSADORS!

- By SARA GAHAN

SEVEN of Wexford’s finest have been honoured by their county as Wexford Ambassadors, following in the footsteps of such local luminaries as Dermot O’Leary, Kevin Doyle and Aidan O’Brien.

Love/Hate and Peaky Blinders actress Charlie Murphy, Irish international rugby star Tadhg Furlong, and a number of captains of Irish industry, were added to the County Council’s Wexford Ambassadors Programme at a ceremony which followed the official opening of the Hatch Lab at the M11 Business Campus in Gorey on Friday.

Wexford County Council cathaoirleach John Hegarty and former RTÉ newsreader Anne Doyle bestowed the honours and presented the new recruits to the programme with a pin and scroll.

The seven new Wexford Ambassadors are:

• Charlie Murphy, who was born in Enniscorthy but lived in Wexford town from the age of 12, best known for her award-winning roles in Love/Hate and Peaky Blinders. As Charlie is currently performing in the West End, her parents Breda and Pat Murphy accepted the honour on her behalf.

• Tadhg Furlong, the Irish rugby giant from Horeswood. Tadhg could not make the ceremony, but his father James Furlong accepted on his behalf.

• Dr David Dempsey, from Wexford town, Ireland’s Country Leader and Senior Vice President at Salesforce, based at the company’s Irish headquarters in Dublin. He is a proud past pupil of Wexford CBS and a long-term member of Wexford Lions Club.

• James O’Connor, MD of Microsoft’s Business Operations International at their headquarters in Dublin.

• Mark Redmond, Chief Executive of the American Chamber of Commerce Ireland.

•Ryan Quigley, Vice President of Europe North Immunology and HCV Lead, Western Europe and Canada for Abbie, a company specialising in the creation of new medicines for chronic, serious health issues.
