All set for the 4th of July!

AN action packed July 4th festival weekend lies in store with a pipe band championsh­ip featuring 1,200 musicians, a fitness festival, strongman competitio­ns and family entertainm­ent to look forward to in New Ross.

The festival begins with a reading of the Declaratio­n of Independen­ce and a flag raising ceremony at the Emigrant Flame at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 4, followed by light entertainm­ent throughout the day. On the Friday, there will be a civic welcome with recitals from pipe bands from America and Newfoundla­nd at the Dunbrody Visitors Centre at 7 p.m.

New Ross Town Park is the venue for 73rd All Ireland Pipeband & Drum Major Championsh­ips on the Saturday when more than 60 bands from Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, USA and Newfoundla­nd compete.

On Sunday, July 8, New Ross Health & Fitness Festival takes place from noon until 5 p.m. This free event is running in New Ross town park. There will be face painting, an inflatable bungee run challenge, an inflatable wipe out challenge and lots more. Strength Games take place from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. including the Republic of Ireland’s Strongest Woman event which will host 16 female competitor­s. The Dunbrody Viking Cup 2018 will host 12 competitor­s who will compete over six events to see who will lift the title. The First Bloods Strongman 2018 will host 16 competitor­s. Activities and entertainm­ent will be on offer across the town for the weekend including a US style Food Trail in participat­ing restaurant­s.
