New Ross to embrace Pay by Text parking for visitors’ convenience

-

NEW Ross is leading the way in terms of meeting the needs of drivers when it comes to parking.

This is the view of District Manager Sinead Casey who said a Pay by Text system is coming into effect this year after Wexford County Council signed a contract with National Car Parks Ireland following a procurement process to introduce pay parking by text to the county’s four main urban centres.

Ms Casey said installation and set up of the system in New Ross will take place over the next three months and it is planned to commission the service in September.

Cllr Michael Sheehan asked if daily, long terms parkers will be able to get fixed weekly, monthly or annual parking on the text system.

‘If we had that it would encourage people to park in designated areas.’

Ms Casey said: ‘ The Pay By Text is another service that we are offering to the public. I feel that we, in new Ross, are ahead of the other towns by offering yearly permits so someone can by three, six or yearly permits so they don’t have to worry about parking charges at all. The Pay By Text is geared towards the people who come in for a short stay or who are visiting the town on a regular basis. They can update their parking charge remotely.’

Ms Casey said the towns long stay car parks are working well.

‘ This is just something additional to encourage people to stay longer.’
