Awards for WLD graduates
stick techniques, plate spinning, poi swinging and more. OVER 150 people from all over County Wexford were presented with QQI Certificates from Wexford Local Development ( WLD) over the last two weeks.
Presentation ceremonies took place in Gorey, Wexford, New Ross and Enniscorthy at which certificates were presented to people who have successfully completed training courses with WLD.
The training courses were mostly within the area of healthcare and are fully QQI accredited. The courses were funded through the Social Inclusion and Community Activation Programme (SICAP).
That programme provides funding at a local level to tackle poverty and social exclusion. It’s implemented in County Wexford by WLD on behalf of Wexford County Council.
A significant aspect of the courses is that many of the participants have secured parttime or full-time employment within the healthcare sector. Other students are continuing with their studies as a direct result of taking their initial steps back into education through the WLD courses.
The presentation nights were hosted by the Chairperson of WLD, Michael Wall, who is a strong advocate for education and is someone who encourages people to return to education or training with a view to increasing their chances of returning to employment. At the presentation ceremonies he reminded the recipients of the significant achievement they had done and encouraged them to continue their studies to help realise their full potential.
The certificates were presented by the Cathaoirligh of each of the four area’s respective local authorities who all praised the recipients for completing their courses and wished them well in their future studies and careers.
WLD is a community based organisation that offers a range of interlinked programmes aimed at improving the quality of life for individuals, families and communities across the county by increasing opportunities for participation in education and training and improving opportunities for employment and self-employment. They do this through the programmes they deliver, including the LEADER Programme, Local Employment Services, TUS, Rural Social Scheme, Cornmarket Project, Warm Project, Meitheal Programme in secondary schools and the Traveller Primary Health Care Programmes.
