Clonmines lead skittles league

-

THE SOUTH-EAST skittles leagues have now reached the halfway mark for the 2018 season.

The league, which is run in two divisions, Senior and Junior, has become a popular game in that corner of the county.

In its eighth year since its foundation, many of its players are renowned for their skill and consistent accuracy at mastering the game.

The halfway stage sees Clonmines leading the scoresheet with 19 points, followed by three-time winners Rathangan on 15.

Last year’s winners, St. Leonards, are on 14 points. Tallaught, Carrig and Mary Jo’s make up the rest of this group and all have their chances in the second round to make up their score to reach the semi-finals.

In the Junior section, six teams are also taking part. Micko’s ‘A’ and Paul Morrissey’s are neck and neck on 19 points.

Last year’s runners-up, Gusserane, are in third place with 13 on the scoreboard. The other Taghmon team, Micko’s ‘B’, have ten points to their credit.

Tír na nOg, who entered the games last year, have scored eight points.

At the bottom of the table is Alan Morrissey’s team on six points.

The singles for skittler of the year has also begun with two separate games, Senior and Junior. A total of 17 have entered the Senior while 18 will battle it out in the Junior division.

The lobbers will keep rattling the skittle rings for the next weeks and months ahead. Everyone is wished well in their games, and maybe we will have new names winning the titles for 2018.
