COURTOWN LADIES

It has been another fabulous week for golf. Open week arrived, bringing with it perfect weather, and a course that has been beautifull­y manicured and looking fantastic. Sure, we couldn’t ask for much more!

Tuesday, June 12, was our ladies’ open day. It was once again sponsored by McGuire Diamonds who have been supporting our ladies’ competitio­ns for a number of years now.

The ladies of Courtown are very appreciati­ve of the continued support. The prizes as usual were fantastic.

Our Revive Active team played against Wicklow on June 10. A nail-biting match played out through the afternoon, with the deciding pairs going to the 19th where Wicklow took the spoils.

Congratula­tions to Wicklow on a very tight and hardfought victory. Thank you to Mona Moynihan and team from Courtown for all your time and effort in representi­ng your club.

Thursday, June 21, brings the Flogas-sponsored ladies’ open two-person team event. This is always a great day and the prizes are wonderful.

The Jimmy Bruen foursomes team gave a good account of themselves in Enniscorth­y on Saturday but did not qualify for the Sunday matchplay.

DONOHOE’S SOCIETY

Donohoe’s Society played Rathaspeck Manor on Sunday, with 18 players in total.

Results: 1, Anto ‘Bud’ Kelly with a great score of 44 points; 2, Sam Farnan, 36 points; 3, Charlie O’Brien, 36 points.

The birdie money was won by Owen Murphy. The yellow ball competitio­n winners were Charlie O’Brien, Charlie Kearney and John Cahill.

Next Saturday we play St. Helen’s Bay. Please be there by 10 a.m.

COURTOWN

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death last week of Betty Tompkins, Betty was a long-time member of Courtown and had served as lady Captain some years ago.

On behalf of all at Courtown we extend our sympathy to her daughter, Denise Kavanagh, and the rest of her family. May she rest in peace.

Open week continued throughout the week, and we could not have wished for better weather conditions. The sun shone on us every day (well, up to Sunday anyway), so let us hope that it continues) and James and his staff had the course presented in fantastic condition.

We are back to our normal golf this week. On Saturday we will have an any combinatio­n fourball sponsored by Johnstone’s Paints, and on Sunday it will be the gents’ singles medal sponsored by Gaslamp Gallery.

There will also be a ladies’ singles. Keep your eyes open for the popular Gorey Guardian summer series which starts again next week on Wednesday, June 27.
