-

ONE of Enniscorthy’s largest employers, Clearstream Technologies Ltd, has been rebranded as BD Enniscorthy following the acquisition of parent company C. R. BARD by Becton Dickinson in late December 2017.

Clearsteam has been a presence in Enniscorthy since 1996. The company has grown from strength to strength in the past 22 years currently employing almost 450 people at its facility in Enniscorthy.

In particular, the company has expanded significantly since being acquired by C.R. BARD in 2011.

Director of Operations Pauline Oakes said: ‘Our growth since being acquired by BARD has been immense. We launched a number of very successful breakthrough products which has led us to double our workforce, required us to add a second building and to treble our output. We have an exceptional team of people here and they have been a real asset in our drive to success.’

At the Enniscorthy site, they manufacture minimally invasive products to treat endovascular disease. The products manufactured are used by vascular surgeons, interventional radiologists and cardiologists when carrying out interventional procedures. The team, made up mostly of talent recruited from Wexford and the greater southeast region, work together to ensure high quality medical devices are produced and sold to countries worldwide.

In December 2017 Becton Dickinson (BD) acquired BARD to become one of the largest medical device companies in the world. The combined company will have 65,000 employees worldwide and more than 90 manufacturing plants. BD is present in almost every country in the world and provides a vast array of products to help advance the world of health by improving medical discovery, diagnostics and the delivery of care.

The company provides innovative solutions that help advance medical research and genomics, enhance the diagnosis of infectious disease and cancer, improve medication management, promote infection prevention, equip surgical and interventional procedures and support the management of diabetes.

Ms Oaks said: ‘It’s an exciting time for us here in Enniscorthy. We are once again embracing a new opportunity within BD. We have seen many changes over the 22 years of our history and we have continued to grow and prosper during all of those. We really welcome this fantastic new opportunity and to continuing our journey with our new BD identity.’
