Raheen teacher Catherine wished well on retirement

AN inspiring teacher who taught thousands of pupils across the district over many years has been given a warm send off at raheen NS.

As 15 pupils graduated from sixth class, the school also marked the retirement of Ms Catherine Greene O’Connor after 26 years of service as a teacher in the school.

Catherine, who taught previously in Michael St. Boys School,, St. Joseph’s Girls School and Ballyhack N.S. She

taught infants for most of the 26 years but also spent some time working in the school as a resource teacher.

At a special graduation Mass, Principal John Curran spoke of Catherine’s great service to the school, her loyalty, her caring nature, her sense of equality and fair play and the fact that she missed very few days over her sterling service to the school.

Róisín Quigley ,who spoke on behalf of the board of management referred to Catherine’s quiet, unassuming and caring nature, describnig her as an inspiratio­n for the whole school community.

Ms Greene herself spoke of the cooperatio­n and support she received from parents, staff and board of management as being ‘second to none’.

Sophie Butler spoke on behalf of the parents and made a presentati­on to Ms. Greene, who was wished good health and a long happy retirement.
