Holy Faith girls reel in the years in night of nostalgia at reunion
THE Holy Faith Class of 1988 enjoyed a nostalgic trip down memory lane for their 30-year reunion in the Kennedy Boutique Hotel in New Ross.
They travelled from all corners of the country from Ballyhack, Fethard-on-Sea, Clonmel, Graiguenamanagh, Wexford and even one ‘girl’ made the trip from Germany to rekindle special friendships and to take up the conversation from a decade ago when they last came together.
One of the organisers Anita O’Shea said: ‘Considering that they left school in the last Millennium, it took no time at all to recognise the faces, even if they names came more slowly - three decades has that affect on the little grey cells! The stories of the olden days flowed freely. Apparently the boarders were always hungry (if you believed them). The day girls remembered the lovely smells wafting from the boarders’ ref, where they always seemed to serve the ubiquitous shepherd’s pie, while they tucked into soggy sandwiches.’
Since they are children of the 80s it was particularly appropriate that the talented DJ Justin Lusby belted out the classics of the time including ‘Come on Eileen’, ‘Bat Out of Hell’, ‘Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now’ and ‘ Should I stay or should I Go’.
A special moment was held to remember the girl’s late classmate Tanya Coppola who didn’t live to see any reunion. To honour her memory the ladies took to the dance floor in great numbers to dance and remember her in a way that Tanya would have undoubtedly approved, the tune – ‘Girls Just Want To Have Fun!’.
Special mention was made of the girls’ two inspiring and wonderful teachers of English who passed away in the last year: Maeve Wilson, known to them as Miss Butler and Mrs Marion Prendergast.
Jenny Murphy O’Neill, proprietor of Vibe Hair Salon, was thanked for organising the event, as were the staff of The Kennedy Hotel. The girls pan to reunite, possibly as soon as 2023.
