CAMOLIN GETS READY FOR A PARISH HOMECOMING

-

THE VILLAGE OF Camolin is gearing up for a new festival which was organised by a small committee of locals. Camolin Parish Homecoming will take place from Friday, July 6, until Sunday, July 8.

The event will be for people within the parish and surrounding areas who can once again mingle and meet with those they rarely see, and for those who have lost touch with the community as they now may reside in different countries.

The festival is the brainchild of parish priest Fr Joe Kavanagh. For some time previous, he had the idea floating around in his mind.

A committee consisting of Fr Kavanagh, John Doyle of Clonhenritt and John Kavanagh of Ballyshaun was hastily assembled and following a series of meetings over the winter months a draft schedule of events was prepared and agreed upon.

Events during the three-day festival include: Friday, July 6 – Official launch with Mass celebrated by Bishop Denis Brennan at Camolin Church at 7 p.m., followed by Camolin NS Past Pupils Reunion at 8 p.m., in the ‘Old School’; Saturday, July 7 – 1798 Bus Tour from 9 a.m., until 1 p.m., Kids Novelty Sports Day in Camolin Celtic FC pitch from 10 a.m., until 12.30 p.m., unveiling of plaque in memory of Michael O’Loughlin at Camolin Post Office at 2.15 p.m., blessing and unveiling of 1798 moument at 3 p.m., and a session in Parish Hall at 8 p.m.; Sunday, July 8 – Camolin annual patron at 2 p.m., Medieval Fair from 3 p.m., until 5.30 p.m., traditional Latin Sunday event devotions in Camolin Church at 7 p.m., and ‘ The Tinkers Wedding’ in Camolin Hall, at 8 p.m.
