Tullogher Rosbercon THE LATE JACK O LEARY

It was with a deep sense of sadness that the parish heard of the news of the passing of Jack O Leary of Raheen on Saturday the 16th of June.

Jack was indeed one of nature’s gentleman always willing to help out in a variety of tasks be they big or small. A talented mechanic in his hey day he could be seen servicing machines from a luxury BMW to a humble lawnmower. Indeed, customers came from far and wide to have their lawnmowers get their annual check up at his premises on the Waterford Road. His passing in his 78th year left a void that will not be easily filled.

An exemplary Catholic, he was a regular attender at the Sunday morning Mass in the Church of the Assumption Rosbercon and now there is a vacant seat in the side aisle which was his favourite spot each Sunday morning. Jack was an avid fan of the Kilkenny hurlers and delighted in the Black and Amber’s many triumphs in recent years. Walking around the Pink Rock with his friends and discussing every topic under the sun was one of his favourite pastimes. He was also a very much involved in vintage cars and tractors and with his expert mechanical knowledge put many of them back again in working order to show at the Vintage Rallies in the areas.

Jack was waked in Doyle’s Funeral Home, the Old Rectory Rosbercon and his funeral took place on Monday the 18th of June to the Church of the Assumption for 12 noon Requiem Mass after which he was laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery. Showing the affection, in which he was held, a huge crowd attended to pay their respects to much-loved member of our community.

Jack is survived by his wife, Kathleen, sons, Owen, Colm and Fergus, sisters, Peggy and Nora, brother, Willie, daughters-in-law, Siobhan and Linda, grandchildren, Emma, Ava, Ruby, Ben, Isobel, Jack, Faye, and Ryan, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, neighbours and a large circle of friends to whom our heart-felt sympathy goes in their sad loss.
