UNDERAGE GAA

Well done to our under-15 footballers who kept their hopes of a top-4 finish on track with a 3-14 to 2-3 win over Kilmore. Despite dominating possession, a combination of erratic shooting and poor option taking saw us fall 2-1 to 0-2 behind after 15 minutes. However, two goals within a minute from Cormac Kiely and Fionn Mullally saw us take a lead that we never lost from then on. A third goal from Shane Culleton 10 minutes from full time put the gloss on a performance that had a lot of positives, even if we were rusty at times. Our next game will be in the hurling championship in two week’s time, though we hope to arrange a hurling challenge in the meantime.

The team was: Jack Rossiter, Jack Roche, Patrick Finn, Cathal Murphy (0-2), Seán Whelan (G), Brian Foley (0-1), Seán Whelan (C), Michael Dundon, Michael Mulligan (0-3), Cormac Kiely (11), Shane Culleton (1-6), Eoin Power (1-1), Eoghan Stafford, Fionn Mullally (1-3), Luke Murphy and Martin Doyle.

Under-13 Football – The lads had another great win over St Fintan’s/Our Lady’s Island last Tuesday evening in Ballybore. The first half was a 50/50 game with the close scoreline of 2-4 to 1-4 in Clongeen’s favour, but the second half was all one way traffic with Clongeen taking complete control with another great performance which saw them running out winners on a final score of 7-9 to 1-4 I believe. So really well done again to this great bunch of guys, keep up the good work.

LADIES’ FOOTBALL

Intermediate Ladies – Well done to the Clongeen ladies’ football team taking on Adamstown in a thrilling encounter last Monday night. Credit to the Clongeen Ladies that took on a strong Adamstown Senior side. Both sides seemed eager from the get go, Clongeen missing a number of chances early on in the first half while Adamstown took their chances well when they came. Chantel Martin caused havoc for the Clongeen defense in the first half with some well taken soccer style goals.

The second half was a different story with Clongeen winning the second half by out scoring Adamstown. Unfortunately Clongeen left it too late and the score ended Adamstown 3-6 v 1-6 for Clongeen. Well done girls on great display of fast tempo football nip and tuck from start to finish.

It was a great practice game for both sides to prepare for upcoming championship games. Clongeen take on Shelmaliers in the next round of championship on July 16 in Shelmaliers, the time is yet to be decided.

Junior B round four South takes place this Wednesday, July 4, when Clongeen take on Rathgarogue-Cushinstown at 7.30 in Clongeen. Best of luck, girls.

Our under-16 girls received a walk over on Monday night against Shamrocks.

Under-14 girls’ Football – Clonard/Volunteers v Clongeen takes place this Friday 6th in Clonard at 7.30 p.m. Best of luck, girls.
