Danescastl­e Music Group will host Seisiun in Horse and Hound, Ballinaboo­la on Tuesday evenings at 8.30 during July and August commencing on Tuesday, July 3. An evening of traditiona­l music, song and dance. Come and enjoy a great evening’s entertainm­ent for all the family.

GAA CLUB NOTES

Well done to a few of our underage teams who have excelled during the week the under-12 camogie travelled down to St Anne’s on Thursday last. A fantastic performanc­e from everyone. On Friday the under-15 boy played Cushinstow­n in Football final score B/B 5-6 to 3-13 fair scoring.

The under-16 girls went to Davidstown for a tough match but the girls showed great character and determinat­ion throughout the match. Well done, girls.

On Saturday the club were represente­d by Kayleigh Nacey and Jess Finn playing under-12 County Blitz. Well done girls.

SOCIAL DANCING

dancing continues in Tír na nÓg every Thursday night with music this Thursday, July 5, by Adrian Ryan, July 12 Delta Dawn, July 19 South Bound and July 26 Pat Daly from Cork. All welcome – proceeds in aid of new handball building fund and refreshmen­ts served.

MUSIC FESTIVAL

The Tullicanna Music Festival takes place on Sunday, July 15, at Stafford’s of Tulicanna, from 5 p.m., come along and enjoy an array of musicians and also a barbecue and colcannon served also, all proceeds will go to MS Wexford.

FREE ART PROJECT

A free Art Project is commencing on Tuesday, July 11, in Grantstown Day Care Centre every Tuesday for 10 weeks from 11 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. Two Artist will be attending. Students on summer break very welcome. If interested please contact 087 2134073 for further details.

Bingo Night – We are holding a bingo night here at Grantstown Daycare Centre Tuesday, July 3, at 8 p.m. All funds raised will be used for day trips and outings for our clients. There will be a raffle on the night with refreshmen­ts served along with freshly baked cakes produced here by our wonderful kitchen staff.

HISTORICAL SOCIETY

A good crowd attended and excellent and interestin­g talk by Mr Emmett Stafford about the Norman landing in Bannow in 1169 at Tír na nÓg, Wellington­bridge recently.

CHAIR.

Rich Howlin addressed the crowd before the talk emphasisin­g that 2019 will be an exciting year for the society as its the 850th anniversar­y of the landing.

Having fun at the Newbawn school sports day were Patrick Dunleavy, Kuba Daugosz and Cillian Whelan (with Sean Óg Murphy photo-bombing in the background).

Mr Stafford then gave a very interestin­g and informativ­e talk using charts and giving reasons why the Normans choose Bannow bay as a point to land and settle. He also pointed out interestin­g characteri­stics of Bannow church and adjoining.

CEMETERY.

A reminder that this year’s annual historical tour will take place on Saturday, July 14, and will visit Woodstock House Inistioge. Gowran church and Walsh distillery Royal Oak Carlow (Where a whiskey tasting treat is included }.The cost of the tour is €35 { excluding lunch } enquiries and bookings can be made by contacting 086 8469131 or 087 0925853.The bus will leave Ballymitty school car park at 9 a.m. month’s Club and County Draw. Kevin Roche, Ramstown won a Season GAA Ticket worth €160. Thanks again to everyone who supported the draw. Both hurling teams lost out on a place in the league finals recently. A hard fought win over Taghmon was not enough to see the intermedia­te side through while a two point loss for the juniors to St Fintan’s saw them lose out.

On July 3 the patron will take place in Churchtown and 7.30 p.m. followed by Old Templetown at 8 p.m. on July 6 in Templetown with blessing of the graves following Mass. On August 3 at 7.30p. in Poulfur with blessing of the grave following Mass.

The winners of the Progressiv­e 45 card game in Colclough Hall, Saltmills last Sunday night were Kathleen Cadogan and Mary Doran. In second place were Billy Shannon, Tony Murphy and Tommy Morrissey. In third place were John Sinnott, James McDonald and Aidan Colfer. The last game draw was won by Maura Cahill, Sonny Cahill and Michael Murphy. The raffle winners were Carmel Kehoe, Tom Morrissey, Siobhán Doyle and Jimmy Cullen.

Weekly lotto €5,900 There was no winner of last week’s Club lotto jackpot of €5, 00 so next week’s jackpot stands at €5,900. The numbers drawn were 8, 12, 16 and 22. The club had three Luck Dip winners, Shiela Barden, Maura Foley and Clodagh Kehoe, who won €30 each.

CREATIVE EXCHANGE

The Creative Exchange Group is taking a well-deserved summer Break. We will recommence on Friday, August 31, with our Creative Tour. During July we will explore the Artists way to refresh the creative spirit by foraging, beach combing, nature walks, photograph­y. Meeting at the Vine Cottage Saltmills at midday on Fridays. This socially inclusive Adults Creative Exchange is hosted by Saltmills and St Kearns Community Group kindly supported by Colclough Hall Committee.

Congratula­tions to Darren O’Grady, who was Saltmills and St Kearns Community Groups split-the-pot winner of €129 for April. Envelopes are available to purchase in Vine Cottage, Whelan’s Chipper and Fish Shop and shop in St Leonards. Next draw will take place on May 28.

THE BLUEBELL CAFÉ

DUNBRODY ABBEY MASS

There will be a Mass in Dunbrody Abbey on Sunday next, July 8, at 10.30 a.m. weather permitting, the theme of the celebratio­n is our Christian Heritage from history to hope. Parking will be in the Dunbrody visitor centre across the road from the Abbey, there will be limited parking in the Abbey grounds for people with limited mobility only please, tea or coffee and scone will be available in the coffee shop after Mass at a reduced rate.

LADIES GOLF SOCIETY

In glorious sunshine 31 Abbey Ladies played their 6th competitio­n in Abbey Par 3. Despite clashing with the Captain’s Mixed in New Ross and other competitio­ns, we had a great turnout. The course was in superb condition, thanks to Ned and Frank. After enjoyable golf games the ladies returned to the clubhouse to the whiff of BBQ food catered for by Frank, yummy, delicious. Thanks to Frank and Kylie his helper serving the food.

Great scores were returned to the excitement of all: 1st Eileen Mullally, (36) 45pts. 2nd Esther Finn, (22) 39pts. 3rd Eileen Wallace (17) 38pts. Category 1 Dympna Molloy, (15) 36pts.
