SLIEVE COILLTE CLOSED

SLIEVE COILLTE viewing area has been closed to the public due to the risk of fire from the high temperatures – which are set to continue over the coming weeks.

A spokesperson for the JFK Memorial Park & Arboretum, which operates the popular attraction, said: ‘Unfortunately, due to the high risk of fire, Slieve Coillte is closed at present for your safety until further notice. Please walk in the Arboretum and not up the hill. We would ask that all our patrons heed this advice and the directions of staff in this matter.’

The mountain road is popular with runners and visitors to the area as it offers a specatular view of the south Carlow, Wexford and Kilkenny area.
