€400 fine for insurance charge
A MOTOR insurance prosecution against Damien McDonald (35) of 3 The Baylestown, Ballycullane want ahead in the absence of the investigating garda at the District Court in Wexford.
The defendant was present at the courtroom in Belvedere Road where he pleaded guilty to having no cover in place on a Volkswagen Passat intercepted at a checkpoint in Haughton Place, New Ross on August 31 in 2016.
Solicitor Eadaoin Lawlor suggested that confusion between McDonald and his broker contributed to the offence.
Ms Lawlor added that her client had been working as a van driver but was out of work at the moment because of a hand injury.
Judge Kevin Staunton ruled that a disqualification was not merited but McDonald could not avoid a fine, which was set at €400.
