Caught speeding on motorway

A speed of 164 km/h on the M11 earned Eoin Doyle (33) from Assagart, Foulksmills a fine of €300 imposed in the District Court.

The sales rep was rushing to a meeting when his car came to the attention of Garda Martin Kavanagh of the traffic corps on November 10 last.

Judge Kevin Staunton noted that the speed sounded excessive but, as it was on a motorway, he agreed to reduce the charge from dangerous driving to one of careless driving before recording a conviction and fine.
