Apartments bought by Respond agency
THE PURCHASE of a large number of apartments in New Ross by housing agency Respond was highlighted by Cllr Michael Sheehan.
Cllr Sheehan sought a report from housing officer Martina Donoghue for the September meeting to determine how many county council housing units there are in the district.
‘Respond bought these apartments and are buying houses with people already in them. We are cutting their lease and making them homeless, replacing them with Respond tenants.’
The meeting heard that many of the tenants will remain in their properties as Respond tenants.
District director Eamonn Hore said the apartments beside the old Docks Hotel were put up for sale and bought by Respond.
‘People have already been served their notices. Some of the people in then may well be housed.’
