Art asks: what is life?
A TWO-VENUE exhibition on the theme ‘What is Life?’ will be officially launched at County Hall in Carricklawn this Friday, July 20, at 5 p.m. followed by a talk in Wexford Arts Centre at 7 p.m.
The exhibition will run in the two venues from Monday, July 23, to Friday, September 7, and will feature the work of 10 local, national and international contemporary artists including Vera Klute, Meadbh O’Connor, Bea McMahon, David Beattie, Eleanor Duffin, Maria McKinney, John Cullen, Gerda Teljeur, Andrew Kenny and Fergus Doyle.
Co-curated by Catherine Bowe and Deirdre, it consists of a variety of artworks including drawings, video, installation and photography which encourage the viewer to consider what is life and explore cross-disciplinary practice within art and science, how art can contribute to science and vice versa.
The works were chosen for their use of scientific enquiry, playfulness and inventiveness.
An exhibition talk will take place in the Arts Centre on launch night with artist Meadhbh O’Connor will engage in conversation with Cliona O’Farrell, Professor of Comparative Immunology at Trinity College, Dublin, and curator Deirdre Southeby and attempt to tease out ideas surrounding the exhibition.
