Loose dog causes havoc at cycle race

July 1994

-

A large dog wreaked havoc when he charged into a group of riders in last week’s Neighbourhood League cycle race held by Gorey Cycling Club in Gorey. And it was a miracle that none of the riders were seriously injured.

Four cyclists were brought crashing off their bikes. The most seriously hurt was Gorey-based Garda Denis McCarthy, Sean Lios, who hurt his back when he was sent flying over the handlebars of his machine.

Co. Cork-born Denis is recovering well, but he will be out of cycle racing for some time. His brand new racing bike was wrecked.

The other three riders who were brought down received cuts and bruises, while the racing bike of Francis O’Leary of Arklow was also wrecked.
