After nearly 5 hours of play one had his chest puffed out just a little more than the rest, yes it was my mate Jim. He played brilliantly, august, lustrous, dazzling and young-at-heart. Probably reliving his history making win at the same course in 2010 against Kilmacud Crokes in the inaugural Purple and Gold Cup. Everybody was delighted for him after the two years he has had. Well done buddy. Seriously though, isn’t it great to see two young teenagers in the winners frame, well done Rhian and Mark. They put the rest of us to shame.
The full results were - 1) Jim O’Keeffe (18) 39; 2) Rhian Clarke (18) 38; 3) Noel Kendrick (14) 37; Cat. 1) Nicholas Cousins (13) 36; Cat. 2) Mark Furlong (21) 36; Cat. 3) Paddy Banville (27) 32; F9) Tom O’Gorman 20; B9) Craig Barnes 23; NTP (8th) - Robin Rowe (43’); NTP (17th) -Kevin Cardiff (68’). There were four winners of the two’s club, David Curtin, Joe Kelly, Jimmy O’Leary and John Walsh who each received €25.
As you all know we are heading for The Heritage Golf Resort in September for a long overdue weekend away. Deposits or full payments will be collected at the next outing. There are a limited number of places so book early to avoid disappointment.
